The Ventura County Medical Resource Foundation has launched a two year Campaign for the Children, which seeks to fund support for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the Newborn Intensive Care Nursery (NICU) at the Ventura County Medical Center.
The Philips Ingenuity 128 slice CT scanner uses extremely low doses of radiation, essential for preemies and small children.
The Foundation supports the PICU and NICU and other specialized health care services for children that are not available elsewhere locally. These include: High-Risk Obstetrics; Pediatric Orthopedics; Pediatric Trauma Care; and the Pediatric Diagnostic Center, which meets the highly-specialized pediatric sub-specialty needs of chronically ill children in our community.
The PICU, the only one of its kind in Ventura County, benefits critically and chronically ill children from all over the county. Critically ill children won't have to be transferred outside Ventura County, thus avoiding a huge financial, social, and emotional strain for families.
Trauma is the leading cause of death in children, and with the availability of pediatric services, children will receive life saving care from Dr. John Marcum, the pediatric intensive care specialist, Dr. Todd Flosi, VCMC pediatric hospitalist, the pediatric critical care nurses, and the respiratory therapists.
With your help, mothers in distress will continue to have access to the best in High-Risk Obstetrics care so their babies can have a chance at life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery. Critically ill and premature infants will continue to have access to state-of-the-art newborn intensive care so necessary for their survival.
Children who have suffered severe trauma will continue to have access to specialized pediatric care. Children with cancer and chronic illnesses have specialized diagnostic equipment available through the Pediatric Diagnostic Center, the only resource in our community providing the specialized care they desperately need. With your support, children suffering from leukemia or undergoing intensive chemotherapy will not face the hardship of making the long, inconvenient trip to Los Angeles on a regular basis, which oftentimes necessitates that a parent take off a day of work. They will receive care from the Ventura County Medical Center which has been one of the major health care resources for all of the people of Ventura County since its founding in 1887.
